Nonlinear aspects of cooling of a strongly anisotropic optical element of a laser

Abstract: An approximate method is developed for the linearization of a system of differential equations describing the temperature distribution in a strongly anisotropic optical element of a laser. The method can be used to estimate the thermal conditions in an optical element of arbitrary configuration. Elements in the shape of a cylinder of finite length are discussed by way of example.
