Investigation of broadband emission from rare gases

Abstract:
An investigation was made of broadband emission from Xe pumped by a high-current proton beam. A kinetic model of the Xe medium was created on the basis of a proposal, previously put forward by the present authors, concerning the nature of the broadband continua of the emission from rare gases. Theoretical and experimental investigations were made of the relative behavior of the broadband and dimer emission from Xe as functions of time, the proton beam current density, and the pressure. Particular features of similar broadband emission from other rare gases are discussed.
