Inversion buildup in the active medium of an iodine laser in the presence of inhomogeneous magnetic fields

B. D. Bobrov, V. M. Kiselev, A. S. Grenishin
Abstract: An analysis is made of the influence of inhomogeneous longitudinal magnetic fields on the amplification cross section of the active medium in an iodine laser. It is shown that in the presence of inhomogeneous longitudinal magnetic fields the energy density stored in the laser active medium can be several joules per square centimeter of its cross section. The calculations take into account the hyperfine structure.
