Thermal gas lens in a copper vapor laser

Abstract:
A description is given of the method and results of investigations of a thermal gas lens in the active medium of a copper vapor laser. This medium exhibited defocusing properties, the focal length being inversely proportional to the buffer gas pressure and to the input power. The gas temperature in the discharge channel was estimated from the focal length.
