Laser with a dynamic distributed feedback utilizing polymer active elements

Abstract: Stimulated emission from a bulk laser with a distributed feedback was observed and investigated for the first time using a dye-activated polymethylmethacrylate element pumped by the second harmonic of a YAG:Nd3+ laser. The method of dynamic diffraction gratings was used to investigate the distributed feedback mechanism. It was found that the feedback was mainly due to spatial modulation of the population inversion in the active medium.
