Abstract: The use of argon in working mixtures of cw electron-beam-controlled CO2 lasers made it possible to increase greatly (by a factor of 1.5–2) the specific output energy without reducing the physical efficiency. The replacement of helium with argon reduced greatly the cost of applications of lasers in technology.
