Asymmetric gratings on surfaces of glass waveguides

Abstract:
The ion etching method was used to form a grating with an asymmetric line profile on the surface of a glass waveguide. A redistribution of the power emitted by the waveguide was observed experimentally. The coefficient of redistribution of the radiation energy into adjoining media was ~10 at the wavelength of 0.51 μ.
