Kinetic nonuniformity in radical polymerisation processes

The characteristic features of radical polymerisation in homogeneous and heterogeneous systems are considered from the standpoint of the kinetics nonuniformity of the elementary reactions. The kinetic nonuniformity is due to the variation of the properties of the reaction system during the process and to the appearance of kinetically nonequivalent zones for certain critical conversions. The kinetic nonuniformity in heterogeneous systems in examined in relation to emulsion polymerisation and polymerisation in the presence of a solid dispersed phase. It is shown that the specific formation in the reaction systems of kinetically nonuniform zones makes it possible to control effectively the polymerisation process and the properties of the polymers formed.
