Kinetics of Homogeneous Reactions in Reaction Vessels with Ideal Mixing (Open Systems)

Institute of Chemical Physics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Moscow
Abstract: The main kinetic features of chemical reactions occurring in flow systems with complete mixing are surveyed. The advantages are discussed of conducting a reaction in a flow system with stirring as compared with reactions under static conditions in a laminar flow. Considerable attention is paid to the establishment of oscillatory (pulsating) regimes. The dependence of the steady-state concentrations on the reaction conditions is examined, as also the kinetics of the establishment of a steady-state. A considerable part of the review is devoted to investigating the possibilities presented by open systems for studying the mechanism of chemical reactions and determining the rate constants of individual elementary stages in complicated chain processes. A list of 70 references is included.
