Optical Methods in Corrosion-electrochemical Studies
A. G. Akimov, I. L. Rozenfel'd Institute of Physical Chemistry, the USSR Academy of Sciences, Moscow
Abstract:
The review discusses problems relating to the technique of optical measurements on the surface of a metallic electrode in an electrolyte solution. Methods for the measurement of the thickness of oxide films on the electrode surface and of the extent of adsorption at the metal–electrolyte interface are examined. A number of examples of spectroscopic studies on metal–electrolyte and metal–oxide–electrolyte systems are quoted. The usefulness of optical methods for the investigation of the processes on the surface of a metallic electrode in solution is demonstrated on the basis of the data presented. The bibliography includes 72 references.
