Stabilisation of the Surface Potential and Determination of the Activities of Individual Ions in Solution

Abstract:
The problem of the determination of the thermodynamic characteristics of individual ions, the Galvani potentials, and the liquid junction potentials by a method based on the stabilisation of the surface potentials of electrolyte solutions is examined. The results of experiments on the applications of surface-active agents (aliphatic carboxylic acids, alcohols and amines) as stabilisers of the surface potentials are discussed. The scope and limitations of the method are indicated. The bibliography includes 85 references.
