Stabilisation of the Surface Potential and Determination of the Activities of Individual Ions in Solution

The problem of the determination of the thermodynamic characteristics of individual ions, the Galvani potentials, and the liquid junction potentials by a method based on the stabilisation of the surface potentials of electrolyte solutions is examined. The results of experiments on the applications of surface-active agents (aliphatic carboxylic acids, alcohols and amines) as stabilisers of the surface potentials are discussed. The scope and limitations of the method are indicated.
