The Present State of the Problem of the Identification of Kinetic Models

V. V. Kafarov, V. N. Pisarenko

Moscow Chemical Technology Institute
Abstract: The present state of the problem of the identification of kinetic models and the principal methods of solution are described. The principles of the estimation of the constants for non-linear kinetic models are examined and the properties of the resulting estimates are specified. Methods for the determination of the adequacy of single-response models, the statistical significance of their individual components, and the accuracy of the estimates of kinetic parameters are analysed. The Bayes methods and probability ratios, used in tests of hypotheses concerning the mechanism of a complex chemical reaction, as well as methods for the determination of the causes of a possible inadequacy of kinetic models and procedures for the specific construction of an adequate model are described. The importance of an active design of a kinetic experiment for the effective solution of the problem of the identification of models is demonstrated.
