Cobalt Complexes of Carbaboranes

E. V. Leonova

A. N. Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds, USSR Academy of Sciences, Moscow
Abstract: The results of studies on the chemical behaviour and methods of synthesis of cobalt complexes of carbaboranes are surveyed and described systematically. The methods of synthesis are classified and the applications of each method are considered. A systematic account is given of methods for the identification of cobalt complexes of carbaboranes. The chemical properties of such complexes are determined by the structure and properties of the carbaborane ligand. The electronic configuration of the cobalt atom in different cobalt complexes of carbaboranes varies within wide limits (d8d5). The review deals with studies in the period 1965–1978 and partially in 1979.
