Kinetic Models for the Prediction of the Lifetime of Polymeric Materials

Theoretical and experimental data for the degradation of polymers under the influence of mechanical stresses are surveyed from the standpoints of chemical physics. Kinetic models for the bulk-phase breakdown of polymers are examined and an approach is formulated to the prediction of the lifetime of articles made from polymeric materials.
