The Development and Synthetic Applications of the Meerwein Reaction

The development of the study of the Meerwein reaction is described and the reactions involving the anion-arylation and arylation of unsaturated compounds by aromatic diazo-compounds and catalysed by transition metal salts are examined and surveyed. The modern ideas about the mechanisms of these reactions and the possibility of their employment in organic synthesis are discussed.
