The Academy of Sciences and implementation of the Atomic Project in the USSR (on the 75th anniversary of the Atomic industry)

Abstract:
The article is based on the report delivered at the scientific session of the General meeting of the Department of Physical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, “75 years of the Atomic industry. Contribution of the Academy of Sciences,” which was held on December 7, 2020. The participation of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the implementation of the Atomic project is presented, examples of the support provided by the Academy of Sciences to the development of atomic and thermonuclear weapons in the USSR through research and engineering solutions and the personal involvement of researchers are given, and the prominent role of scientists from the USSR Academy of Sciences in the creation of the USSR's nuclear shield is highlighted. The need for active cooperation between specialists from the Russian Academy of Sciences and Rosatom nowadays is stressed.
