On the behaviour of cracks in plate with regard to residual stresses

R. Wille
Abstract: We consider a plate of finite breadth with one surface crack. There are some residual stresses distributed in the plate. We compute the intensivity coefficient under different depths of the crack and different distributions of residual stresses. We find the position of the closed crack in the zone of pressing stresses. The results of the computation are analyzed and compared with analytical solutions for a half-plane with a crack perpendicular to the boundary.
