Abstract:
A sphere–plane electrode system in the air with one or two dielectric sheet barriers arranged perpendicularly to a grounded plane is considered. Hence, the barriers do not obstruct the shortest path between the electrodes. The effect of the barriers on streamer processes and breakdown is studied. It has been revealed that the breakdown voltage generally decreases when the barrier–electrode distance is reduced.
