Viscous interaction on a flat plate with a surface discharge in magnetic field

Abstract: The problem is treated in viscous interaction between a gas flow and a flat plate on which a surface dc discharge is ignited and burns steadily between two electrodes arranged across the gas flow. The problem is solved using a self-consistent thermogasdynamic model and an electrodynamic model, which are based on two-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations and on a diffusion-drift model of electric discharge in the quasi-neutral plasma approximation. The electrodynamic equations are closed by equations of external electric current; therefore, the obtained solutions fit the fixed values of the electromotive force of the dc source and of the external circuit resistance. The input data further include the velocity of incident gas flow and the pressure in the flow and the dimensions and configuration of the electrodes of the electric-discharge system. Numerical solutions are obtained in application to the conditions of experimental investigations performed at the Wright Brothers University, Dayton, Ohio, USA.
