Abstract:
U-duality appears as a group of hidden symmetries in toroidal
reduction of 11-dimensional supergravity. While the p-form fields
transform as linear representations under the duality transformations,
the scalar fields live in a coset and transform non-linearly.
The Exceptional Field Theory is based on the structures of Extended
Geometry defined on the so-called extended space. This framework
considers U-duality transformations as a local gauge symmetry of the
extended space.
In this talk we will see, that both 11-dimensional supergravity and
Type IIb supergravity can be obtained by choosing a solution of the
section condition, a constraint that projects the extended space to
the conventional space-time.
