The double star construction

I will describe a new strategy to construct a pair of closed, smooth 4-manifolds, that are homotopy equivalent but not homeomorphic, inspired by the star construction. I will specifically focus on the constructive step, which consists of a sequence of explicit geometric manoeuvres.
